Effortless Ways to Save Money as a Full-Time College Student

So, you’ve finally found a part-time job or a side hustle to make some extra cash. What happens now? Learning how to maximize your paychecks is a skill that can be just as difficult to master, if not harder, as securing a source of income itself. Frich’s goal is to make financial responsibility as easy and straightforward as possible. Here are some of our tips for saving money that can really add up in the long run!

Student Discount Websites

Discount websites like UNiDAYS and Student Beans are your best friends! All you have to do is register your university ID so the website can verify your student status. Both services contain a catalog of vendors, ranging from popular clothing stores like ASOS and Hollister to technology retailers like Apple and Samsung. They also provide links to discounted subscriptions from commonly used services, such as Course Hero and Hulu. While the discounts are not very significant (ranging from 10% to 30% with some stackable options), the savings really do rack up with every purchase.

Try Sleeping On It

Impulse purchases are some of the worst things you can do to your saving process. When a flash sale or interesting product pops up, it can be difficult to suppress your desire to buy it. After all, a discounted color-changing mousepad is something you definitely have to own, right? Sleeping on a potential purchase, or even making a pros and cons list for the purchase, can save you from spending your money on something you really don’t need.

Finally, Make Your Own Coffee!

While this tip may seem trivial, it really does add up in the long run. Look at it this way: if you spend four to five dollars on a coffee before class every day, and attend classes four times a week, you’re spending up to $80 on coffee in a single month. Now, add that up over the course of a full fourteen-week semester. That’s $280 on pre-class coffees that you could have easily made at home with your mom’s old coffee machine and some caramel syrup from the grocery store. Setting up a cheap, personalized coffee station at home or in your dorm allows you to get your caffeine fix without draining a week’s paycheck.

It’s incredibly easy to incorporate money-saving habits into your daily routine, even as a full-time college student. Frich helps you take the first steps towards learning how to budget and spend responsibly, and taking the extra measures to maximize your paychecks will allow you to make the most of your budgeting journey. Get saving!
